About Abydos

STARGATE OFFWORLD encouraged their local groups to choose individual designations. STARGATE ATLANTA chose Abydos as their planet, "Ya Think?" as their group name (from Richard Dean Anderson), and "PGA-30083" as their Stargate address.

Abydos in Stargate: The Movie

Planet Abydos is a desert planet, inhabited by 5,000 humans kidnapped from Earth during the Egyptian pharaoh era by Ra, a Goa'uld war lord. In the Stargate movie, an Air Force unit and an archaeologist travel through the newly discovered Stargate to Abydos. What they find is a primitive, yet peaceful people, still living in the Eyptian age and still ruled by Ra. Needless to say, the newly arrived humans from Earth figure out that Ra is an evil alien and overthrow his rule with the help of the planet's slaves. The archaeologist, Daniel, stays behind on Abydos to marry Sha're, one of the local girls.

Abydos in Stargate SG-1

Season 1, Episode 1
"Children of the Gods"

In the Stargate SG-1 series opening, an Air Force crew returns to Abydos one year later - to recruit the archaeologist, Daniel, to rejoin their team. Daniel shows them ancient glyphs in a cave that are "maps" to hundreds of worlds through the Stargate. The planet is overrun by the Goa'uld war lord, Apophis. During the raid, Apophis selects Sha're as his Goa'uld queen host along with her brother, Skaara. The SG-1 team are able to escape with the help of a reformed Jaffa, T'eal'c (who joins the cast of SG-1), but without rescuing Sha're and Skaara.

Season 2, Episode 9
"Secrets"

Daniel and Teal'c return to Abydos in Season 2 after Sha're's father unburies the gate. To their surprise, they find Sha're there, who is nine months pregnant with Apophis' child, whom he plans to use as his own host. When Sha're gives birth, Teal'c and Daniel manage to steal the child and give it to her father for hiding.

Season 3, Episode 10
"Forever and a Day"

As SG-1 attempts a rescue of captured Abydonians, Daniel sees his long lost wife Sha're in a nearby tent. He follows her inside, where Sha're, who is actually the Goa'uld Amonet, takes Daniel in the grip of a ribbon device. Teal'c enters the tent with his staff weapon as Daniel falls unconscious and kills Sha're to save Daniel's life.

Season 6, Episode 22
"Full Circle"

In a brutal attack by Anubis' mothership, the temple exploded in layers and spread outward, killing all of the inhabitants, including Skaara, who had returned to Abydos after the Tokra removed his Goa'uld symbiote. When SG-1 arrived on Abydos, they were greeted by Skaara, who explained to Jack O'Neill that Orma Desala had ascended all of the Abydonians. She also created an "illusionary" temple and Stargate, so that SG-1 could return long enough to say goodbye. Thus, the appropriate title to this episode. (In other words, I guess that our club members are really ascended beings!)
